COLLEGE & CAREER READINESS SUPPORT
According to the Michigan Department of Education, a student who is college and career ready possess the skills necessary to earn a self-sustaining wage and participate in postsecondary opportunities without remediation. This means that students will use technology and tools strategically in learning and communicating, use argument and reasoning to do research, construct arguments, and critique the reasoning of others, communicate and collaborate effectively with a variety of audiences and solve problems, construct explanations and design solutions.
College & Career Readiness Curriculum
College visit days begin in the eighth grade and occur every fall for all students. This gives students the opportunity to tour and talk with students and staff at colleges and universities ranging in size from community college to large MAC conference universities each school year. The 2017-18 college visits are as follows:
8th grade: Kellogg Community College 9th grade: Glen Oaks Community College 10th grade: Olivet College 11th grade: Western Michigan University 12th grade: Trine University In addition, each senior will receive two attendance passes to visit a college or university of their choice on their own. Paperwork must be filed with Mrs. Houtz prior to the visit in order to mark the absence as excused. |
Pansophia Academy's partnership with The Branch Area Careers Center gives students the opportunity to gain hands on experience in a skilled trade of the student's choosing. Career readiness activities begin in the sixth grades and include Kids Consider College, Girlz@Work, Middle School Robotics Experience, 8th and 10th grade BACC visits, 9/10 Early Program Placement, Career Day and the traditional 11/12 enrollment.
These events, in combination with student's personalized Educational Development Plan, help guide student education beginning in the middle of middle school all the way through to graduation. |
Dual Enrollment has consistently been present at the high school level for many years and the opportunity to earn college credit while completing a high school diploma remains an invaluable opportunity for Pansophia students. Partnerships with Kellogg Community College, Glen Oaks Community College and The Salon Academy. All sophomore students at the Academy participate in the Accuplacer placement test in the fall of their sophomore year to determine eligibility.
Early Middle College is Pansophia's newest CCR initiative. EMC consists of students, in their sophomore year of high school, committing to a 13th year of high school. This program allows students the opportunity earn between thirty and sixty college credits before high school graduation. Information regarding the EMC program will be given to students beginning in September of their sophomore year. |
